Introduction to LX Design

At the beginning of every new semester in every new class, we typically receive a copy of the course syllabus. This is usually a document that includes learning goals, an overview of the course, projects, and deadlines to keep in mind, and at the very end, a list of resources and materials that we can refer to throughout the semester to supplement our learning.

Now think back to the last course that you finished and try to answer the following questions:

  • Did you go through every resource in the list?
  • Did you go through every resource in the order that it was presented?
  • Was every resource updated with the most recent information available?
  • Did every resource in the list help you achieve the learning goals?
  • Did you enjoy going through the resources that you were recommended?

It can be tempting to fill our reference or resource list with every single thing we find online but this might not be helpful for our learners. Our learners are diverse – they have different needs, learning styles, different access to technology.

For the Playlist Gifts project, we’ll be using Learning Experience Design or LX Design as one of our lenses for turning our reference lists into a rich and engaging learning experience for our learners.
