Classes, training workshops, seminars, coaching sessions, videos, modules and handouts, and even games – all of these are types of learning experiences. Here are some more examples from our body of work:
Face-to-face Workshops: STEMPower Our Girls! (2018)
How might we inspire young girls to further their knowledge and skills in the area of STEM? Together with a team of science teachers from public and private schools, we co-created and facilitated STEMPower Our Girls, an experiential scientific literacy program designed to strengthen young girls’ aptitude in and attitudes towards science and technology.

Together with a team of science teachers from public and private schools, we co-created and facilitated STEMPower Our Girls, an experiential scientific literacy program designed to strengthen young girls’ aptitude in and attitudes towards science and technology.
We made assessments and workshop activities for a 6-day program that ran in Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, and Manila, reaching 97 6th grade girls. By gaining a better sense of what young girls are looking for in an engaging learning experience and how to apply that to STEM lessons, we designed better and more impactful learning experiences that we hope helps turn them towards a career in STEM.
Online Workships: Habi Live (2020 to present)
Shifting to online and remote forms of learning didn’t stop the demand for workshops and training programs. Technological affordances from web conferencing apps like Zoom and being able to stream using Facebook allowed us to still deliver workshop experiences despite the distance.
Aside from our client and partner-driven projects, we offered a series of workshops we call Habi Live where participants can join us on Zoom or watch the livestream on our Facebook page. This allows different kinds of options for the participant and also allows potential participants to experience the workshop asynchronously, because the live stream remains uploaded on our Facebook page.
Podcasts: Habi Hour (2020 to present)
During the pandemic we started to look at other modalities and formats for learning experiences. We started to explore podcasts as one such container for self-paced learning experience. We started Habi Hour as a safe space for idea exchange and discussions, share delightful and inspiring stories, share Habi’s culture and ways of working, and to capture user insights and impact stories through partner and collaborator interviews. You can listen to Habi Hour on Spotify, anchor.fm and Google Podcasts.
Games: Handang Heroes (2019)
Together with Japan Foundation, we designed a set of games to learn about Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction (DRRR). These games were specifically designed for senior high school students (Grades 11-12), where DRRR is taught as a core subject under the Department of Education’s K-12 curriculum.
We used a co-design approach and worked with DRR teachers to create a toolkit that is contextualized, responsive to actual needs, and rooted in best practices.
Based on the insights we gathered from the research phase, as well as discussions and exchanges during the co-design workshop, gamifying DRR topics and concepts seemed to be the most practical way to address both the motivation and engagement of learners. Using games also provides the space for learners to apply or practice skills derived from the theoretical knowledge they obtain in class.

As you can see, our approaches may vary but designing learning experiences is exactly what we do as educators. Through this course, we want to give you more tools and a different perspective to help you look beyond the classroom as your space in facilitating learning.
